The Section Council of the Staff Association met in Melbourne recently for the first time in 2012.
CSIRO Board Chair Simon McKeown met with councillors on the first day and fielded questions developed by workplace delegates.
Section Council hit the road on Day Two and visited CSIRO Food & Nutritional Sciences at Werribee, meeting with local Staff Association members over lunch.
The Australian Council of Trade Unions was the venue for the third day for discussions on workplace organising strategies and a presentation on the union movement’s campaign to highlight the growth of insecure work in Australia today.
Other issues discussed included the state of health and safety at CSIRO, access to capability days, laboratory management and design, the regional science campaign, recruitment of new starters, Staff Association communications and increasing member engagement and communication.
