Geelong’s Australian Animal Health Laboratory was the venue for the first installment of CSIRO Staff Association biennial council meeting for 2013.
Staff Association councillors and officials from across the country met over three days to debate a wide range of issues facing CSIRO workers in the year ahead.
Topics discussed included workplace bullying and harassment in CSIRO, classification reversion for staff at CSOF7 and 8 and preparatory campaign planning for upcoming pay negotiations.
The guest speaker was Oanh Tran, Industrial Officer of the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia who delivered a presentation covering the challenges facing outworkers and the Australian garment industry.
Councillors also attended to a full range of administrative oversight, including the delivery of union advice and support to Staff Association members in the workplace.
The meeting ended with a visit to the new CSIRO facility at Deakin University (Warun Ponds) and a special morning tea for visiting councillors hosted by local Staff Association members.
