Standing up for CSIRO in Canberra

Senior politicians joined hundreds of concerned members at the public on the lawns of Parliament House to support CSIRO workers in a rally organised by the CPSU.

Chanting to ‘Save CSIRO Jobs!’ the rally called for the retention of critical research for the public good. Concerns about the future capacity of CSIRO to deliver for the next generations of Australians were placed front and centre.

Speakers included Anna Rose from the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and Dr Sarah Ryan, Deputy Chancellor University of Canberra.

Senior politicians were well represented including Shadow Environment Minister Mark Butler, Greens Leader Richard Di Natale and Independent Senator Nick Xenophon.

Also in attendance were Greens Science and Research spokesperson Adam Bandt and Senator Janet Rice; Labor MP’s Mark Dreyfus, Stephen Jones, Andrew Giles, Julie Collins and Sharon Claydon. Representatives from the ACT Government were also present including Mary Porter MLA.
